I think part of the problem is that some of the sign were actually obscuring the (not entirely consistent in any case) existing ones. NOT TO MENTION that "An Lar" isn't exactly commonplace term for foreigners (or the majority of Irish people for that matter either) OR that apparently the new colour scheme becomes ineffective and indistinguishable at night under street lights OR that the City council justify the signs because the AA support them (And would they do anything else after the AA focus groups, and them alone it would seem, were used to test the signs?) OR that the entire system seems to have been imposed upon the public with little or no consultation or advance publicity with either the public OR The department of Transport - If Dublin council so sucessfully managed to get glossy brochures distributed and to publicize it all on the media at the launch wouldn't it have been a lot wiser to bounce the idea off the public and get feedback before implementing the plan and wasting so much money on ineffective and confusing signposts.
And finally this is the ultimate proof if any were needed that the concept of having local authorities, and they alone, plan and implement signposting for their own area, without, it would seem any input or consultation with a national body, is a major part of why signposting all over Ireland is so chaotic and disjointed and lacks any degree of continuity.
