Up here in the North signposting is far better. EVERY road (even in the countryside) has a name and a sign at each end. (People here are amazed when I tell them that many people live in houses on nameless roads with no house numbers or postcodes) Also on the approaches to each town centre there are signs giving the location of the carparks and whether they are free or pay.

In Dublin signposting ranges from medicore to brutal. strangely though its in the newest areas of the city (e.g. Tallaght) that its at its worst. Another nuisance is Gaelic (as opposed to bilingual) signs in a city where English has been spoken for nearly as long as it has in England itself. Coming out of the goddamn AIRPORT theres a big sign giving directions to all the major cities (Years out of date due to the introduction of motorways) entirely in Irish. Most busses going into the city just have "An Lar" on their destination board which to most Irish people and all visitors is completly meaningless while driving in a "lana bus" can get you stopped by the police (sorry "Gardai") even though you have no idea what youre doing wrong.
