There is a lot to be said for the equal status of the current EU and I'm a bit concerned about the proposed changes. The UN appears to be more and more at the mercy of the veto holding members of the security council and I'm worried that something similar could happen with the EU. On the other hand it could be argued that the natural economic weight of the larger EU countries already give them the clout that the proposed changes provide. I would also like to understand more about issues such as tax harmonisation and what the future for our favourable corporation tax is. As cheaper labour costs in new states undermine our competiveness issues such as corporation tax incentives and our skillbase will become more critical in attracting new industry. Finally how will Ireland deal with labour movement. I don't subscribe to any of the scare stories bandied about but its just something I want to understand in my own words. I'm more likely to vote yes but I'm open to reasonable discussion.
