I also had a 2000 Focus and seem to remember a similar issue with it after 30k miles and again, and even thought I hadn't gone to a Ford Dealership for the service (The Ford Dealership had spent the previous 12 months ripping me off for supposed warrant work) the monopoly meant that one could only buy the brake disc's from Ford Parts Dealer, although I don't think the pads had to be bought there. As I recall there was a cheaper option in getting the discs ground however, aside from that I think it's a serious defect if brake discs are wearing down in Focus's after just 30k, if indeed the garage are to be believed or maybe it's just another gimmick.
