![]() At about 7:15 yesterday evening (Wednesday) I was fortunate to spot what looked like glowing clouds in the distance and after stopping the car in a dark hollow I saw one of the most spectacular sights I've ever seen in a Mayo sky. An arc of green flickering ribbon and a streak of pink or two from the aurora borealis. Never thought that we'd see such a dramatic display this far south. I tried to get a few photos for Castlebar.ie but my camera wasn't up to the job . . I think you need a long exposure to capture something like this. The photo above is by James Connolly from todays Irish Times - The aurora borealis lights up the night sky over Ben Bulben, Co Sligo, yesterday.
