Minister Cullen said this week (Irish Times 15;11;03) that he would like to see all local authorities take up the challenge offered by modern technologies as innovatively as possible- "so that we can do business smarter and better".

Fine words indeed, but if he saw the shambolic and out-dated state of Mayo County Council's web-site he would have a fit.

Other county councils, (Waterford, Cork for example) are miles ahead in inter-active technology and public participation.

Des Mahon, wake up! Get a grip on some of your managers. Democracy demands no less!

Ths staff are fine; just lacking leadership and motivation. Its the management that's a disaster, after years of inferior appointments have taken a heavy toll.

Bench-marking is now exposed as a national scndal; justifying even half their lucrative pay rises is the very the least these people can do.
