Democracy is destroyed more surely by the apathy of those who are too lazy and self-centered to vote than by any terrorists' bomb or bullet. Look in awe at the people of South Africa queue for hours in most uncomfortable conditions to use their recently hard-won right to vote, and contrast that with American and our own Irish attitude to elections. That is why the right-wing parties of greed currently dominate western political society, and have to gall to claim they do so in the name of freedom: because the majority are too comfortable to bother voting. Dont Shut Up, Get Up. Bravo to the few Bob Fisks who refuse to be brow-beaten by the born-again extremists of the right.
