The numbers on the streets protesting against the war were far more significant in my mind than any amount of opinion polls as they signalled that people were willing to get off their asses and protest against what their government were doing as opposed to just ticking a box on a form. I think you overestimate the accuracy of this particular form of assessing peoples intent. Polls always show Fianna Fails support to be much higher than that actually shown at the ballot boxes. I never read to much into polls. After all there are lies, damned lies and statistics.
