The level of inaction in our current Public/Civil service astounds me considering all the extra people that have been hired to the civil service over the past 10 years. What do these guys all do? Why is there a paralysis in providing proper and decent service in all manner of things that we should expect as taxpayers in this country of ours, be it planning, roads, schools, hospitals? Is this because of cronyism or just because the people that are there do not really care about what the people they are meant to serve i.e. the public want. After all if they don't do their job who is going to sack them? It's hardly the private sector where instead of "benchmarking" bonuses for no extra productivity and hour-long tea breaks we get let go if George W or Alan Greenspan catches a cold.
