Low turnout is probably a reflection of the lack of power of the European Parliament and MEPs. The Commission still holds the power.
UK's attitude towards the EU constitution says more about UK then it does about the EU (rule Britannia nad all that).
And while I have concerns about giving too much power to Brussels I think we need to step back and look at the big picture.
Bringing Eastern Europe out from behind the Iron Curtain and into a democratic and free Europe is a great achievement. It gives a great opportunity to millions of people to improve their lives.
And we should not forget that joining the EU had a huge positive impact on our country, economically, socially, and culturally. The future of course could be different but that's up to us.
In general, I find that the most Eurosceptic people tend to be those who have never wandered much farther than the end of their own driveway.
Get out and see the world. There's a lot more to it than you think.
