We had a massive turnout here in Ireland - and these are only minor local and European elections. If people were so disaffected with Europe would they bother voting. Were there any eurosceptic candidates? No. Not even Sinn Fein is eurosceptic. Kathy Synnot stated quite clearly that she's not one. Even Dana who wanted to put God in the constitution got her answer- 'Out Mrs!' So where does this leave us? Well a lot more enthusiastic about Europe than most. Your thesis may apply in England where they don't want to share any more. But not in Ireland. The USA voters - the great defenders of democracy barely get off their ass to vote barely 50% in the last presidential election and even then look at what happened - elected by a minority. Ireland is not Poland who are only in the door 6 weeks or so. If Poland benefits from Europe like Ireland has done they will start voting.
