With reference to the thread "Republic of Connaught " I thought I would share with you my short but valued education on the development of Independent states. This education was gained from living in the "Peoples republic of Cork "

Being a Castlebar feen living in Cork for two years now, I can honestly
tell you that any form of regional unionisation can hold many advantages.
As unofficial and inspired as this is, it brings with it a collective
pride and is indeed a very healthy suggestion.

Although in typical Corkonian fashion you will be accused of ripping of
the already thriving and fully governed "Peoples Republic Of Cork "
movement which now commands over 250'000 enrolled & proud citizens.

To enhance your position on the independent citizenship map you need to
employ the recognition of established, famous, rebellious type figures
whose influence and being has helped carve our fine region.
For example, legends past and present are the foundation of influence for
the Peoples republic of Cork. Michael Collins, the Cork man who won the
war single handed (as they tell you down here). Jimmy Barry Murphy and
Roy Keane on a sporting front are also on a par with Jesus Christ in Cork.
.
Maybe we could start making suggestions as to whom our figures of
influence could be?

As a proud Mayo man, I myself look forward to the day total independence
is achieved, and on that day I would love to see a huge commemorative
statue of Paddy the hen Maughan erected in the mall and maybe at the
latter end a smaller but equally iconoclastic version in the form Paul
Claffey of mid west radio fame (positioned on a carpet packed hi ace
van). After all, this media giant of the west has help carve our western
culture with his daily sheep dip show, inspiring stuff!

As we move forward in a new era of cultural ambition and vision I urge
you the people of Mayo and surrounding areas, stand up, be counted, burn
down Denim and lace and lead your county into independence (can you see
the flag blowing and the trumpets sounding??)

And should other surrounding counties want to follow suit...... fu*k it,
charge them a fortune entrance fee then this money can be used to employ
tooth brush equipped maintenance managers for the mall statues to clean
the bird sh*t from Paddy and Paul’s bronze heads.

Hope all is well at home.

KC.
