Early screening is essential for cancer patients to get the correct treatment and so improve survival rates. Obviously the more scanners there are in the country the more quickly people have access to these facilities. I can't believe that you are even asking this. My mother had a scare a few years back and had to travel up and down to Galway. Lucky she had access to her own transport but not everyone does. This facility should be available to everyone in their local hospital especially in a county with such a large geographical spread as Mayo. You sound like a beancounter. Maybe you should Join Charlie McCreevy in Brussels.
