It is a slight mis-statement to suggest that the Irish were welcomed with open arms and had it so easy when they emmigrated. In fact isn't there an plaque with an appology to the Irish on the way they were treated when emigrating to America. It was very common in London, Liverpool etc to see notices "No dogs, no Blacks, no Irish". In central Europe there were numerous attacks on Irish emmigrants who were blamed for "stealing" jobs. I remember a friend who travelled to Denmark about 10 years back saying that the Irish were given a very bad time there.
