Ok as long as it is as you say and the day will be removed for Christmas holidays, although i am not happy at all with your point about "children have to be shown the pride and respect that comes from competing in sports" they dont in my own opinion, its one sport that is picked out here GAA, not all children are intrested in it or have time for it, alot of children are into other sports but dont get a day off school for theirs, its nothing to do with pride, i am not intrested in GAA but i take pride in the county, and its other attractions and people, while wishing the team every good wish, i think we should remember it in context its a one sport amongst so many if only my son who loves Golf was given a day off for Rider Cup, but as you say if today off is removed from statuary holidays well i cant complain, its just many parents are at work while their children could be wandering round the town or at home by themselves no doubt feeling down and depressed after match yesterday, i just feel they would have been better in school where in the routine of the day, the loss of the match would be put in context
