He didn't say it was a miniscule amount to him but it was miniscule in context of their overall budget.

I agree it is not the best use of public resources, but this level of complaining is a little over the top.

The council workers are the face to the public of the council and perhaps they deemed it appropriate to show their support for their county team.

We can all say €8k could make a difference here and there - "sure why not raise €3 a week of every adult in Mayo and we would have €14m raised a year. Sure €3 wouldn't buy you a drink" - The point is you have to look at the bigger picture.

And their is many private sector employers who provide nights out, entertainment etc., and this costs more than €50 per person
