Then spent the rest of the day getting stared at and told that there was dirt on my forehead, because I live in Missouri, a.k.a. buckle of the bible belt. Lots of Christians, very few Catholics. Be glad all of ye that are in Ireland, where people know what Mardi Gras translates to and why it exists! They think it's just a big drinking session over here.
