About ten years ago I was caught not paying my TV licence in Dublin onetime but when the leter came they had my surname spelt wrong so I ignored it and never heard anything more about it

Being registered to vote doesnt prove ownership of a TV set (although the TV licence "inspectors" automatically assume everyone licenced or not has a TV set -presumption of innocence seems to be an alien concept to these goons) however It used to be the case (possibly still is in the republic ????) That once one was registered their name and address went into the public domain and became available to every criminal, junkmailer and jumped up Adolfesque inspector out there.

Here in the UK privicy concerns led to the law being changed a couple of years ago so that I have the option of ticking a "privicy option" box when I register to vote which means I never get bothered by Readers Digest scams anymore

Dont know whether Ireland has adpted this enlightened measure yet
