That once one was registered their name and address went into the public domain and became available to every criminal, junkmailer and jumped up Adolfesque inspector out there. Here in the UK privicy concerns led to the law being changed a couple of years ago so that I have the option of ticking a "privicy option" box when I register to vote which means I never get bothered by Readers Digest scams anymore Dont know whether Ireland has adpted this enlightened measure yet
