just curious as to people's opinions out there on the sentencing handed out at the Brian Murphy trial. Personally am in two minds don't know whether the fact that these boys were from affluent areas affected their sentences positively or adversely but suspect that the fact that so much emphasis was put on the blackrock college aspect of the case meant that custodial sentences were inevitable and too damn right!! the one point where i take issue is that one of the convicted criminals(and that is what they are folks dress it up all you want) was allowed to finish university exams before he goes to jail i wonder if it were a boy from ballymun on a fas course with no previous convictions or previous criminal behaviour would the same concession have been made to allow him to better himself? me thinks not but i will stand corrected if anyone there can convince me!!
