I'm slowly coming to realise that the problem is not with the politicians, it is with the immaturity of the electorate. We have not evolved enough to see beyond our own immediate self-interest. We cannot see that we need to group together and make the sum greater than the parts.
Enlightened self-interest as opposed to blind 'not seeing beyond the end of your nose' self-interest is what we need.

The politicians we elect are a reflection of this attitude. We get what we deserve.

I'm probably letting them off a bit easy though. They do have a responsibility to lead us (and not just up the garden path).
