I take your point re: graduates starting on less than this and you are correct. Point re: spouce/partner is fair also. But I counter on the part-time job - I didn't include it in my claculation for a mortgage, but only in an ability to save for a deposit, furniture etc. On the college fees - I would ask why these need to be financed by loans - Do students no longer work? I graduated 5yrs ago with no debt in my name, and frankly before you say I had rich parents, I recieved no grant, and no financial support from my parents. Finance is too freely available to students who would be better of working to finance college. If you are working 48hrs, then you should be getting paid > than the average salary, either via a higher salary or via 1.5x hourly wage. Now I am not disagreeing the property prices are excessive or the fact to purchase a house is difficult for an individual of any age to purchase it, but sometimes instead of complaining people need to take responsibilty and some scarfices to achieve their goals. The original point was govt. are not too blame for all the world ailments and individuals need to take reasponsibilty. Finally, I must definetely live in the real world.
