I remember my parents, and anyone I knew for that matter, scrapping by from week to week, penny pinching in everything. There were no holidays, let alone foreign holidays. If you were extremely lucky you had one car, most people didn't. Going out for a meal was an extremely rare event and not the norm as it is today(usually at weddings). You got a homemade cake at your birthday and no bouncing castles or parties in McDonalds. This was the 70's and 80's…..not that long ago. I believe for the most part things are a lot better these days and the hardship is less. When we think of the past we think of the good times and generally forget the bad, which is a good thing.
