Keep It Simple Stupid

If you keep it simple people will use it more . . . did you not see the TV advert for the car alongside all those other day to day items that just plain work.

It's all about requirements and fulfilling those requirements, for example :

My requirements for a new toaster would be that I want to be able to put bread in and have toast come out. That's it, maybe a 'browning' control would be handy but I'm not fussy as I can always pop the toast early. I know what it is, what it does and it fulfills the requirements.

Dev would probably prefer the technically more advanced cool touch, panini, lean, grilling machine which blogs your toasting preferences to a remote website so if the toaster breaks down it can recover it's preferences ;-)

Both have their merits but simplicity will appeal to a wider audience.
