You need a certain critical mass to run a bus service at an economic rate and Castlebar just isn't big enough to pay a driver's wages at typical bus fare rates never mind the cost of purchasing and paying for a bus and keeping it on the road constantly. You're stuck with taxis I'm afraid - but be thankful that at least we do have a big choice in taxis nowadays. It's not that long ago I remember ringing for a taxi to the station for the 7:20am train. At the time there were only two or three taxis in town - they said "We don't do early mornings."! So I had to leave the car at the station. The current situation is a big improvement on that?
