In Dublin at least the Churches read out the amount of the collection each week - they don't do it here but they publish accounts in some detail each year. I'm sure there's tons of corruption in the church just as in any organisation - just look at politics around this town - would you prefer to have that lot minding the collections each week? Or the bankers or the mobile phone companies or the fake insurance premia people (cost of one billion to the taxpayer if yesterday's papers are to be believed). You pays your money and takes your choice. At least you have a choice about whether you attend church or not - or which one you go to - lots of denominations now here in Castlebar. You have a choice of which bank or mobile phone company you want to rip you off too but it ain't much of a choice :)
