If I remember correctly, Castlebar has the second smallest urban boundary in the country mostly due to the fact that there is squabbling between the county council and the local town council about who gets the rates from the Industrial Estate. Until this is sorted out MCC will not sanction any significant increase in the Castlebar Urban Boundary which will affect the amount of lucre coming its way.
Westports urban boundary is twice the size of Castlebars'.
