So Irish people didn't give more per person than anyone else to Live Aid? Another myth shattered!
Or is it just playing with statistics by comparing donations against our GNP that pulls us down? Our Governmental donations are stingy - we're nowhere near the target of 0.7% of GNP according to the OECD but at 0.41% in 2003 we are certainly miles ahead of the USA (0.14%) and just ahead of the UK (0.34%) - figures from the www.OECD.org. If every country met its 0.7% obligation then an additional $114 billion dollars would flow into third world countries which would solve many problems.
