A lot of people questioned whether it was really referring to the pope being shot (the only real connection being that the assasination attempt was on the anniversary of the first Fatima vision)

The guy in the "vision" dies wheras the Pope is very much still with us (unless you believe in conspiricy theories about the pope being a lookalike imposter but thats another story) and it could just as easily have been describing the assisination of say Archbishop Romero in El Salvador

On the other hand Mehmet Ali Agca (the guy who tried to whack the pope) did develop some strange obsession with Fatima even declaring in court that he was the second coming of Jesus Christ and calling on the vatican to release the thrid secret (surely if he WAS Jesus Christ suely he could have just asked his mother ???)
