poor transport means less migration

There is a lot of migration in Southern Africa (despite the poor transport) both internally (within countries) and across borders as people go in search of (relatively) better employment oppurtunities in cities etc.

Wars and natural disasters also give rise to large scale movements of population

Remember during the 19th and 20th centuries Irelands transport infrastructure was pretty dire (some would say it still is) but it didnt stop Irish people emigrating en masse
