Trutus Trutus. Where I live Game fishing is too expensive and I am lucky if I can catch a real wild brownie. I HATE put and take trouting and the flacid, sexless rainbows which are invariably used for stocking are pretty miserable and can't be compared to the beauties you can expect to catch in your part of Ireland).
Funnily enough, here in England, I live near a river (the Wandle) which was considered to be one of the best chalk streams in the south before industrial pollution killed it all off.

Pike fishing therefore offers the chance of some real alternative sport, particularly with a lure or troll on the big reservoirs. Its also possible to fly fish for them. Big fish are worth waiting for and are carefully returned. So far as the Germans are concerned, Pike and Carp are considered a table delicacy and served up as a Christmas treat. Try it, properly prepared its not to be sniffed at. Just make sure that the fish isn't too big and the cook knows how to fillet and cook it.

Good luck to all Piscatorials!
