You are right there Mogil, until 1054 all priests were married and supported their families, then Rome split from the eastern or Orthodox Church and imposed celibacy on its clergy its a man made rule and yes it needs changing, also the women priests have proved a great assest to the Anglican Communion after some hesitancy at first they are well accepted now, i attended a mass celebrated by one a few months ago and it was very enlightening, i think and i dont know if you agree but the next Bishop of Rome has alot of challenges to face but these will have to be done as the church cannot continue as it is attendance way down, young people deserting it in droves majority of priests elderly no vocations, convents and monestries closing down, lack of trust in clergy, but maybe with all this going on God is trying to tell the church to do something
