I got a text message at about 4pm Irish time asking me if I could propose an alternative candidate because it was looking like the Church was going to become a male dominated, non-democratic, authoritarian organisation. Unfortunately the only person I could think of on the spur of the moment was Bertie Ahern - either him or his brother chief of the UN.
