It's easy to dismiss, harder to persevere

Maybe it harks back to his days in the Army as an officer but to a certain extent I would have to agree, he seems to get the strategy right but the tactics are at times a little bit hit and miss.

Still he can only utilise the playing assets at his disposal and whilst a great military commander could employ superior tactics in a battle you have to look at the longer picture of a full campaign - winning one battle doesn't win a war - it was unfortunate for Mayo that in last year's championship the ONLY defeat was in the final and that in this year's league campaign the only defeats were against the superior opposition of Kerry and Armagh and an unfortunate injury time point against Dublin on the opening day of the season.

You can stand behind your General as he leads you into battle and choose to go with him and hope that by the end of the campaign you're actually in a position to win the war or you can put a bullet in the back of his before he leads the first charge. To my mind there's only one honourable decision and until the time that a luckier or better or more capable general comes along I'll stand behind my imperfect yet more than capable commander.
