The fact is that none of that was known at the time. War was declared for no other reason than the German invasion of Poland after being allowed to invade Czechoslovakia. Those who fought were either forced to, misguided or incredibly enlightened. Even during the war reports of the genocide of Jews were dismissed by both Britain and the USA.
