Research by the American & Canadian safety authority's has shown that seatbelts for kids can cause more harm than good if they actually restrain a child in a crash situation, due to the fact that all kids are different sizes, proportions and they dont fully restrain a child, lap belts like found in aircrafts are not recommended and a 3 point belt (that used in cars, vans etc...) over the shoulder and connects beside your waist also are not recommended as they dont usually fit the child properly. Other safety measures such as a seatbelt which restrains the waist, mid section and chest/shoulders are recommended, but chances are bus companies will never fit them and if they did kids would not wear/use them. Bus companies are now looking at non restraining devices and compartmentalising the buses, to act as crash zones within the bus, saving alot more lives and preventing more injuries....seat belts are not always the answer....
