Castlebar is definitely not the only town with such signs - check out the markings, for example on some of the main roundabouts linking the M1 and M50 where two and even three lanes go into one - same markings. The Rules of the Road cover this quite adequately. You gotta be careful when you are entering the single lane. The person going straight ahead in a left-only lane is clearly in the wrong.
