Friends sure -
It's funny too that I thought the thread was on-sided but in the other way until Bod posed a few questions which no-one care to answer apart from flinging insults.

Those against Shell need to accept that a helluva lot of damage has already been done up there by local interests over 35 years long before offshore gas was even dreamt of. Nobody said boo. It just seems a bit hypocritical that's all.

The lake will sure as anything bloom with blue-green algae again this summer - just as last summer and the summer before - and this is Belmullet's water supply mind you. The removal of the stored material that was dumped into the peat up near the 'experimental' station may do more to improve the quality of Carrowmore than anything that has been done to help the lake over the past 30 years. And people are objecting to the removal of this contaminated stuff! A case can be made that by building where they are building an improvement in water quality will occur simply because they are removing the contaminated material from the old experimental station. Leaving it where it is means that it can continue to leak into the lake as it has been doing for many years now.

This is quite separate from whether the Irish taxpayer should have been ripped off by Ray Burkes infamous deal. It brings a new meaning to offshore accounts!

Environmentalists can argue that bringing natural gas to the west coast will help to reduce our greenhouse gases because it's a more efficient fuel than transporting coal and oil long distances - less waste co2 produced.

And don't get me started about the forestry.
