Statistically speaking - there was enough possession and ball played into the last third for Mayo to have won the match.

I think the players have been heavily drilled in the art of 'shot selection' but Sunday was not a day for this type of artistry where space and time were at a premium.

I'd say it's better to take the chances when they arise than let a chance die a death in a tackle or overrun. Even if most drift wide it's worth remembering that we only lost by two points.

People will blame the manager & coaching team for the shot selection debacle but in fairness it's up to the forwards to micro-manage themselves when they realise that certain tactics aren't working.

After the failed goal chance Conor Mortimer converted a very difficult overhead shot - even if you don't like the guy you have to admire the skill he used to convert this chance - some would suggest that he should've passed the ball back out to someone running in but he nailed the point - end of story.
