We have been on holiday in the west of Ireland from Austria, i just must comment on the sad state of the Christmas lights or lack of them in Castlebar, i was in Westport on Saturday, my God what a lovley display and eye catching tree, but when we returned to Castlebar it looked drab abd poor, i was told Castlebar is supposed to be your County Town, well what an advertisment it is, i was told the lights are not put on in the day to save electric? talk about lack of Christmas spirit, what is the matter when yourselves as citizens dont do anything about this sad state of affairs? it was not just the lack of any sign of the festive season, but the appalling litter on your streets, and why or why is their traffic allowed on your Main Street? is Castlebar a poor Town? many of the shops could certainly do with a lick of paint, some even have not bothered with decorating for Christmas. Its all very sad to many visitors when you can see what Westport and other towns can do, as a group we will certainly think twice about visiting Castlebar again, its only when you look and tour around the other towns in Mayo, that you can see how bad Castlebar is a group of people from Castlebar are visiting our famous Austrian Christmas Markets so we decided to come here in exchange, but Westport for us is the jewel in Mayo crown, it seems the people of Castlebar cant be bothered with Christmas or cleaning up the litter
