Nice to see the facts coming out. There were read emergency access issues at the time the closure of the church was mooted. It was not the Health Board that took the legal action. The building was to be utilised for Health Care and a Medical Library. I understand that the funding was lost to Mayo and now you see portacabins ajoining our new hospital.

Given recent developments in the Church I would bet that the church authorities will now try to quietly withdraw from the building.
In any event I commend the management of Mayo General for taking unpopular decisions. Only 41% of the irish population attend mass, our population is now pluralistic and we must remember that public services such as hospitals & schools are now funded by all of our taxpayers. These facilities should foucs on what they are supposed to deliver and there are inded serious issues in both Health and Educatuion that need addressing.
Incidentially I don't object to the crib and personally welcome it in the Hospital, but in the oratory where people who wish to enjoy it can do so in peace and those who do not don't have to.
