A Town Councillor earns 3,500 as a salary and gets 1,500 for expenese. On average they get two conferences a year.

Hardly a fortune!

They do not get paid for meetings, for speeches or for travel within their area. Only on the way to conferences.

As for councillors moving into new housing estates that is just rubbish.

I checked all this out on the government website.

County Councillors in Mayo make an average of €30,000 all in which is a lot better.

So it seems Town Councillors are under paid and CCs are over paid considering a town councillor works with more people on a day to day basis and CCs don't as they don't work closely in urban areas served by Town Council's expect a election time when they work the town for all its worth!
