Over the years we have tried a range of different forum types. For example we did try the bells and whistles PHPBB2 for quite some time in late 2004 early 2005 under the title Forum2. It never took off in spite of regular front page encouragement to try and get people to use it. We had to stop using it, however, as there was no facility to hold posts for publication as we do here.

Perhaps we are the victim of our own success - topics disappearing too quickly! But to allow posting to the archived posts would place an enormous burden on the poor moderators who have to read every post. Typically a thread stays live for about 5 or 6 days as the board grows in size to about 90kb or so and then is chopped back to approximately half that size.

We are looking at a new content management system but there are not a lot of BBs out there that have a 'submit and publish' model similar to ours so it is likely that the existing system will simply be embedded into the new CMS.
