They 'had no choice' but to introduce the Nitrates Directive too - but it just happened to take 15 years and already they are backtracking and watering it down to a bunch of useless meaningless words on paper that are of no value having bent over to the tiny but oh so loud farmer lobby. They do what suits them in other words. But now it suits them to suck up to GW Bush and his military campaign at the moment. But it they thumbed their nose at Brussels trying to force them to provide the people of Ireland with clean water. It didn't suit our FF farmers who insisted on maintaining their 'right' to pollute your tapwater with e-coli and nitrates. If it was so mandatory and all above board did he try to sneak it in As Gaeilge? Nothing to hide - and the PDs were supposed to espouse openness and transparency not phone tapping sneaking around listening to their enemies a la FF in the days of McSharry and that famous security wall builder from Cootehall (rip).
