"Nobody doubts that the council, and the individual staff perform fantastic work in loads of areas throughout the county"

Well I do . . . . having been fortunate enough as a student to get some Summer employment with the council once I was genuinely shocked at the amount of waste, the excessive amount of staff and the poor service offered by the council and it's employees (considering the amount of revenue they get in and the numbers employed).

There are without a doubt talented 'individuals' in the Council who are carrying the load for a great many others but you cannot blame staff for being poorly motivated, trained or instructed in their jobs.

The problem is endemic throughout the civil service and semi-state bodies, the mortal sin is that they get pay increases without being tied to performance increases.

One thing I can never work out . . . considering the client base (tens of thousands) you'd think they'd have a dedicated call centre in place where staff were trained in how to answer and deal with fairly regular queries.

One thing I will concede is that the Co Co website is very good (parts of it need more work but that's more down to updating of information).

Mind have you seen their mission statement?

"Mayo County Council's mission is to improve the quality of life for people living in Mayo and enhance the attractivenesshe County as a place to live in, work, enjoy and invest."

'Attractivenesshe' are the Co Co trying to introduce new words to the English language???

Maybe they should hold off on the library extension until they all pass a spelling test.
