Firstly Ryanair are responsible legally as they are the airline selling the tickets, it was their schedule and they hired Eirjet. If they had hired DelBoy and everybody died do you think they would escape blame? Secondly helicopters use runways frequently not because the need the tarmac but because there are navigation aids aligned to bring airplanes in that the helicopters can use in bad weather. The British Army no doubt use this. Thirdly Ryanairs website comes out with some pretty shocking spin, this case is no different. Dont believe the rubbish. I feel sorry for the Eirjet crew because if it suits them Ryanair will hang them out to dry. Indeed Eirjet could struggle after this. Ryanair have had bigger screw-ups that dont even get widely reported in this country.
