Whilst blessing the roads may not be a "practical" response to road safety, in truth at least what harm can it do and even if the ceremony and the publicity surrounding it makes some people think about their driving behavior then it can be deemed sucessful. An on a general note like so much in modern Ireland when people are compelled to dole out criticism they always roll out the old kernels and cliches for any excuse to criticise the church. Thing is like so much of everything else, I doubt if any of the above posters have been the direct victims of much or any of the litany of crimes they cite the church being guilty of. True, sadly many individuals within the church have been guitly of horrible crimes and the church has in many cases been guilty of denial and indeed protection of many of these individuals BUT equally there are many good men and women in the church and this particular action like many others is an example of positive and proactive attempt by the church to being more in touch with every day issues of relevance to us all and I think they are to be credited for it, not criticised by trolling out all the faults of what they have doen or do wrong.
