I was in the UL library last weekend and EVERY student studying there had a laptop and the library is setup so that laptop users can log on to the UL network and access study materials.

On average you'd buy one laptop for the price of one years worth of secondary school books at full price.

If the publishers made the books available in some sort of electronic format then at least they could then be corrected or updated easily.

Laptops would also be useful for the presentation of the work submitted by students, essays all written in a standard font are much easier to read and mark than something handwritten in biro (plus it's the content that's more important than the presentation so at last we'd have democracy in this area).

Laptops are a great idea and are there are very few third level students without one at this stage.

No harm to start educating the young in the use of modern tools and equipment before the hit the real world or would you prefer if they were all back in the hedge schools.
