Whats the difference between a Highway an Expressway and a Freeway ?

When Europeans talk about a road with four lanes (two each way) with a barrier or grass reservation in the middle we call it a "dual carriageway"

When we talk about a four or six lane road with no roundabouts or junctions (i.e. bridges and sliproads used throughout) we call it a "Motorway"

What are the equivalent American definitions
