Most package holidays return on the return leg of the same flight that brings you to your destination. You therefore have to lose at least 8 hours flying (to the Canaries in any case) plus another cumulative 5 or 6 hours going to the airport and waiting to board your aircraft. On top of that you have restrictions on late night landings and takeoffs so an aircraft arriving at midnight cannot take off again until early morning.

A few hints:

1. Read the departure and arrival times carefully and then think why are you getting such a good 'bargain' if the price seems unduly cheap perhaps you are not really getting the week but rather a long weekend.
2. Take two weeks next time or even go for a whole a fortnight while you are at it then the chopped off bit at the end isn't so bad.
3. Pick a flight that arrives on time to go out and have a meal the evening you arrive and get the benefit of that first evening.
4. Pick a nearer destination so that the travel time isn't such a big element of the holiday
