Depends on their telecoms provider or brand of phone I reckon. Lots of phones have default German accents (Siemens most likely). If they are on eircom it's most likely that the accent will be Irish (or perhaps Australian now that it is owned by an ozzie infrastructure company). BT will undoubtedly Queen's English perhaps - it's not called British telecom for nothing. Denis O'Brien's crowd might have a Jamaican lilt on the voice mail. The reality is open markets mean that we have sold off our infrastructure to a band of pirates. What language they speak is a minor detail compared with the act of offloading the local loop to an anything but local owner!

I think we should probably complain too about the Portuguese being spoken in Gort, the Polish food shops in Castlebar, people speaking Russian in Tescos, Indian restaurants, Chinese restaurants, Little Italy along tucker Street, Thai Restaurants and shops selling spaghetti and pasta - and other foreign foods.
